0.25 & Biostar TF7050-M2: no HDMI

Post by osy » Tue Dec 18, 2012 11:01 pm

Hi,

I finally upgraded to 0.25.3-82 Everything went very smoothly with the new ASUS AT5IONT-I based frontend. It seems to work more smoothly than with 0.24 I had before.

Things did not go as well with the Biostar TF7050-M2. HDMI does not work - output seems to go to the VGA port only.

I have made no changes to minimyth.conf, other minimyth related parameters, the frontend HW or BIOS.

Frontend logfiles (messages_v01 & Xorg.0.0.log_v01) + minimyth.conf

You can see there are quite a few errors in the messages file and that there is a continuous output complaining:

Code: Select all

user.err kernel: [drm] nouveau 0000:00:12.0: DDC responded, but no EDID for HDMI-A-1
MM_X_OUTPUT_HDMI='auto' has worked fine so far and I have done no tweaking to Xorg.conf.

Did you upgrade to 0.24.3-82 before upgrading to 0.25.0-82? If so, did HDMI work with 0.24.3-82?

If yes, then I am not sure what to suggest.

If no, then it is likely the change from the NVidia binary driver to nouveau Open Source driver. If so, then it could be fixed in the next build that reverts to an earlier NVidia binary driver that likely supports your hardware. If you provide the output of

Code: Select all

lspci -mn
then I can check whether or not the reverted NVidia driver does.

Hi Pablo,

No, I was at 0.24.1-78 before the upgrade. After playing with the latest (12.04) Mythbuntu on the same hardware, I am pretty sure it must be in the driver side. I have not been able to get anything out of the HDMI port with the Open Source nor NVidia drivers included in that package.

Unrelated, but...

Before I can send you the output of the command, I have to resolve another problem I managed to create when playing with Mythbuntu. First I was not able to connect to the database in the separate backend from the Mythbuntu frontend. I reissued the privileges from the MySQL prompt, edited the content of all the many config.xml files around the server and was able to get the connection working. But then I realised Minimyth does not connect anymore! () This applies to both of the two frontends. I have already spent a few hours tracing the issue with no luck. Soon I am ready to format and reinstall the backend!

minimyth.log:

Code: Select all

DBI connect('database=mythconverg;host=192.168.255.2','mythtv',...) failed: Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'tv2' (using password: YES) at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.12.3/MiniMyth.pm line 588
Exiting eval via last at /etc/rc.d/rc.pl line 80.

Ended up formatting the backend (Linux partition) and now the backend is again up and I can connet from the Mythbuntu frontend. Need to configure Minimyth netboot still in the backend, and I would rather get Minimyth back to the Biostar, as well.

What was the display driver used in 0.24.1-78? Could that be still packaged with 0.25? I would also like to try it with Ubuntu.

The backend is again in operation and my other Minimyth machine works normally. Here is the output from lspci -mn:
