hd playback unstable with 0.26.0-82 on ION

Post by rogerjames99 » Thu Jan 03, 2013 7:01 pm

Having just upgraded to 0.26.0-82 from an older 0.25 build I am seeing random crashes in Mythfrontend when trying to playback HD programs recorded from DVB-T2. The crashes are random and seem to be related to memory corruption. Another thing I see is that background for floating windows is missing.

I have tried 83b1 but it is not much better. It seems a bit more stable but the window background on floating windows is still missing. Also the frontend crashes on exiting hd playback.

Is the nvidia driver in 83b1 an older version? I saw a mention of this in another message but the change log does not seem to mention it.

My name is mud in this household at the moment as a downgrade of the server to 0.25 is a risky job.

All help gratefully received!

Here is a summary of my testing so far.

The motherboard is a Zotac ION-ITX-C with an Atom N230 CPU.

The last working version I has was 0.25.2-81. This nvidia driver version in this is 295.59.

0.26.0-82 is unstable. The nvidia driver version is 310.19.

0.26.0-83b1 is unstable. The nvidia driver version is 304.64

I have also tried the 64 bit build.

0.26.0-82-x86-64. This hits a segfault in mythfrontend during boot up. I am not sure if the Atom 230 is a real 64 bit processor. It does report the "lm" flag in cpuinfo. Has anyone else run the 64 bit build on this motherboard? For info here is the end of the messages file.

This is likely of no help, but it's further information: both versions are stable for me with DVB-S2 recordings from freesat. I'm assuming you are in the UK too using freeview HD.

You guessed right. Any chance you can send me a sample file. I have a DVB-S2 card but I took it out of the backend a while back, when I ugraded my DVB_T setup to a quad tuner DVB_T2 card. The annoying thing is that this was all stable and working at 025.2-81. I really want to avoid rolling back the server.

Thanks for the file.

Lastest status is I just found something really weird. I moved the minimyth ION box and connected it to a different TV, HD playback is now stable! The original TV was a very old Sony Bravia, the new TV is a lot newer Samsung. As far as I can see both were trying 1080i. I know the the HDMI connection on the Sony is a bit peculiar because I connected a new Shuttle XS36GTV3 box to it and only the BIOS Logo (Megatrends) was displayed, nothing else from the bios boot sequence, the shuttle worked fine when connected to (yet another) Samsung TV!

I installed Openelec on the Shuttle and that will display HD but with some motion artefacts. Good enough for watching Countdown but not much else! The Shuttle has an AMD Mobility Radeon HD7410M GPU which Openelec recognises as a 6410. I will try a Minimyth build on it and see how that fares. But I have never had a lot of faith in AMD GPUs on Linux.
