UVCVideo

Post by dmz » Tue Jun 08, 2010 1:38 pm

Hello,
uvcvideo modules use to be included in the system; but I haven't been able to find a recent release that includes the uvcvideo modules. Am I missing something or have they been removed from the distro?

btw, I have checked the following versions for uvcvideo:
0.20.2-72
0.22.0-71
0.22.0-72 (kernel 2.6.31.6) - latest 0.22 stable
0.22.0-73b10 (kernel 2.6.34) - latest testing

I did find it in the following version do have it:
0.20 (kernel 2.6.21.7)
0.20.2-72 (kernel 2.6.31.6) - latest 0.20
0.21.0-55 (kernel 2.6.23.17)
0.21.0-56 (kernel 2.6.23.17)
0.21.0-71 (kernel 2.6.31.5)
0.21.0-72 (kernel 2.6.31.6) - latest 0.21

I see the same kernel used in the "latest" versions so I will try copying the modules from the latest 0.20 into 0.22.

The build system only includes these drivers when mythphone is included. As mythpohone was dropped as of 0.22, these drivers are not included when MiniMyth is built for MythTV 0.22. Is there some other MiniMyth software that uses these drivers? If so, then let me know the software and I can make sure that they are included when that software is included.

Actually there isn't a myth component that is using it; I am using my minimyth boxes as cameras for my zoneminder system (I just can't bring myself to setup "another" embedded system just for a camera when the myth boxes are near where I need them).

Would you have any problems including the modules or letting me know how to build them?

Thanks!

I agree with not adding more money/power consuming hardware than needed to get the job done. I will add the uvcvideo kernel driver in builds that include mythzoneminder. Are there kernel drivers besides uvcvideo that you need for in order to use your minimyth system as part of you zoneminder system?

Additionally, are you adding software to your minimyth systems so that you can use them as cameras for your zoneminder system? If so, could you let me know what it is so that I can consider adding it to the minimyth build system? As I do not use zoneminder, I am completely ignorant of its software requirements.

Paul,

If you could, would you please consider adding in the gspca camera driver as well as the UVCVideo driver? It's used by a lot of Logitech (and other brand) webcams. Both drivers would be beneficial for Zoneminder, and would also be useful for those of us looking to add something like Skype to a MiniMyth frontend.

Thanks!

/Mike

Sure. I have committed a change to SVN that compiles the gspca kernel drivers (they were split into multiple drivers a few kernel versions ago) and includes them in the image when mythzoneminder is included in the image. It will be in the next test build.
