msr kernel module for undervolting CPU

Post by tsjoender » Tue Apr 12, 2011 7:28 am

On my backend I have great succes undervolting the CPU with CPUPowerd: http://cpupowerd.sourceforge.net/

This saves power and allows me to passively cool the CPU as it doesn't run hot at all. I'd like to try the same on my MiniMyth frontend. I know components for CPU throttling are present, but they do not allow for undervolting (??). Apparently acpi-cpufreq could do that, but that seems to be limited to Intel CPUs? CPUpowerd is limited unfortunately to AMD K8 based CPUs.

I modified my minimyth.pm script to fetch a cpupowerd binary and configuration file. When trying to run it, it indicated that it needed the msr kernel module to run. The other two kernel modules it requires are already present in Minimyth (cpufreq-userspace and powernowd_k8). So could the msr kernel module please be added as well?

At the risk of sounding very impatient... could the inclusion of this kernel module please be considered?
