I am trying to load minimyth from a pxe boot. the version I am using is the ram version 20

I keep getting the following error.

error: failed to load kernel module:nvidia

and I have no idea what could be causing it any help with this would be great.

thank you

Often when a kernel module fails to load, there is an error message in /var/log/messages. If there is none, then running 'modprobe nvidia' might cause some messages to be printed out.

Same error message here:
error: failed to load kernel module:nvidia

modprobe nvidia says

$ modprobe nvidia
FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.19.1/misc/nvidia/nvidia.ko): No such device

I'm only using an nvidia card because the onboard ATI seems to be unsupported:
01:05.0 "0300" "1002" "5834" "1043" "8107"

Is it possible to mount the initrd to include the kernel-module?

Could everyone who is having this problem provide the output of

Code: Select all

lspci -mn
along with the NVIDIA card/chipset being used?

Thanks.

Thank you for the information.

I can see no reason that this kernel module should fail to load. I wonder whether there is some incompatibility with the the ATI chipset.

However, you will have problems. MiniMyth has no support for ATI. While some things will work because they are generic (e.g. USB), other things will not work because they require special drivers (e.g. audio).

Is there a way to build the drivers myself? The Build System doesn't work either:

Code: Select all

checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.

You are using an NVIDIA card that is claimed by NVIDIA to be supported by the driver as well. Strange.

I wonder whether to problem could be related to the 2.6.19 kernel. While -21 was built with the 2.6.19 kernel, we dropped back to the 2.6.17 kernel in -22b* because people were having stuttering problems with the 2.6.19 kernel. Could you download the latest test version (0.20-21b8) and see whether or not the problem occurs with it as well?

This is what 0.20-22b8 says

$ modprobe nvidia
FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.17.14/misc/nvidia/nvidia.ko): No such device

Thanks for your help

using version 0.20-22b8

btw, I just tried another NVIDIA card:

01:05.0 "0300" "10de" "0332" -ra1 "1458" "310b"

This one works without any problems.
