trying to use 'component' on nvidia 6150 ( asus am2npv-vm )

Post by fadetoblack » Sun May 20, 2007 11:41 pm

hi all,

i'm successfully running minimyth ( v19 22b6 i think ) using composite output on an asus am2npv-vm motherboard. i've been trying to use component output by setting 'HD576i' and 'COMPONENT' in my configuration file. but when i boot up my screen hangs with the mythtv logo and the message :

error: MM_X_TV_OUTPUT='COMPONENT' is not valid for MM_X_DRIVER='nvidia'.

i have successfully used component by logging in to the running minimyth host, editing the xorg.conf file and restarting X. so now i'm not even sure if this is an error reported by xorg or if it's some sort of minimyth validation message ?

is there something else i need to set ? does this even work at v19 ? or should i just wait till i upgrade to 20 and try again ?

thanx for any feedback.

trying to use 'component' on nvidia 6150 - resolved

hi all,

after going through the minimyth.conf file documentation and reading the description for every parameter, i decided to try using MM_X_FETCH_XORG_CONF.

i created a working xorg.conf file on the minimyth host : get minimyth running normally i.e. composite mode; telnet to the minimyth host; edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf; restart X using /etc/rc.d/rc.d/S42x stop / start until i had a working file; cut and paste a copy of the file ( also called xorg.conf ) back to the backend in the same directory as the minimyth.conf file.

i then rebooted the minimyth host and it now runs successfully through component output.

i think it's great to be able to have the option to fall back to using a completely manual configuration if the normal environment doesn't work for you.

I am glad that you were able to get it working. Could you post the changes that you made to your xorg.conf in order to make it work? I would like to see whether or not I can integrate them into the MIniMyth init scripts.

hi,

the parameters i'm using are :

MM_X_TV_TYPE='HD576i'
MM_X_TV_OUTPUT='COMPONENT'

this seems to be supported according to the minimiyth.conf description page, but it doesn't work for me - perhaps i need to set something else as well ? in any case, let me know if you'd like me to test / try something.

Actually, what I am interested in is your xorg.conf that works with component out so that I can fix MiniMyth.

Interesting that it wouldn't work for you. I set up the same board with component out and it worked just fine. The only difference is I've done it with NTSC-M, or HD720p. I've also use the HD720p setting with an MSI K9NGM2 which is another 6150 based board (albiet with a much worse BIOS).
