INIT: No more processes left in this run level

Post by razza » Sun Jul 29, 2007 10:38 am

Hi all, I have got my EPIA M10000 to a point where it goes through the boot process (RAM not NFS) then hangs after it TFTPs the minimyth.conf, with 'INIT: No more processes left in this run level' at the top of the screen and 'Check /var/log/minimyth.var.log for errors' at the bottom.
Problem is I cant access /var/log/minimyth.var.log as I cant SSH into the box.

I have tried to keep my minimyth.conf as simple as possible to prevent error, which is as follows -

MM_X_OUTPUT_VGA='auto'
MM_X_OUTPUT_TV='none'
MM_X_RESOLUTION='1024x768'

My /var/log/messages is as follows -

I use nfs; this error in my system would likely be due to me having the /etc/dhcpd.conf file list the client MAC as "c0a80abe" instead of "004063e897b6" (both with the preceding "01".
Maybe it's something similar in a ram set up.

Hi Joe,
Sorry i'm confused about what you are saying, 00:40:63:e8:97:b6 is my mac, C0A80ABE is my IP in hex (192.168.10.190).

Ray,

Please remember that I'm coming at this from an NFS perspective ....

In my set up, the file in the pxelinux.cfg subdir is named after the MAC address of the client trying to access the host, ie., 01-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx. The error messages you got, which show that file name being reduced by one character per try, is what I get if I've mis-typed the name of the client.

What does your /etc/dhcpd.conf file look like?

Joe

PS: This article might help.

Hi Joe,
i'm sure the minimyth.conf file is getting across, see the final line in my logs -

Jul 29 08:46:44 FSvr in.tftpd[17085]: RRQ from 192.168.10.190 filename PXEClient/conf-rw/MediaL+minimyth.conf

Before I moved the minimyth.conf file to PXEClient/conf-rw/, (and changed the name to MediaL+minimyth.conf) I had the following lines in my logs -

Jul 29 08:38:57 FSvr in.tftpd[16998]: RRQ from 192.168.10.190 filename PXEClient/conf-rw/MediaL+minimyth.conf
Jul 29 08:38:57 FSvr in.tftpd[16998]: sending NAK (1, File not found) to 192.168.10.190
Jul 29 08:38:57 FSvr in.tftpd[16999]: RRQ from 192.168.10.190 filename PXEClient/conf/MediaL//minimyth.conf
Jul 29 08:38:57 FSvr in.tftpd[16999]: sending NAK (1, File not found) to 192.168.10.190
Jul 29 08:38:57 FSvr in.tftpd[17000]: RRQ from 192.168.10.190 filename PXEClient/conf/default//minimyth.conf

As you can see from my current logs (blue) minimyth no longer goes through the above directories, so i'm sure the .conf file going across.

Are you using an M10000 and minimyth-0.20.1-26? If so could you post your minimyth.conf?

Ray,

I'm using an MII6000E and minimyth 0.20.1-26.

My .conf file is ... extremely long. The parts which aren't the default are:
MM_TZ='America/Chicago'
MM_X_WM_ENABLED='yes'
MM_X_OUTPUT_TV='auto'
MM_X_TV_OUTPUT='S-Video'
MM_X_MODE='720x480Noscale'
MM_MYTHAUDIO_ENABLED='no'
MM_MYTHGALLERY_ENABLED='no'
MM_MYTHGAME_ENABLED='no'
MM_MYTHNEWS_ENABLED='no'
MM_MYTHPHONE_ENABLED='no'
MM_MYTHSTREAM_ENABLED='no'
MM_MYTHZONEMINDER_ENABLED='no'
MM_EXTRAS_URL='none'
MM_CODECS_URL='none'
MM_THEME_NAME='Iulius'
MM_THEMEOSD_NAME='Titivillus-OSD'
MM_THEME_URL='none'
MM_THEMEOSD_URL='none'
MM_THEMECACHE_URL='nfs://192.168.1.102/tftpboot/conf/Sammy/themecache'
MM_MYTHDVD_URL='nfs://192.168.1.102/mnt/dvd'
MM_MYTHMUSIC_URL='nfs://192.168.1.102/mnt/music'
MM_MYTHVIDEO_URL='nfs://192.168.1.102/mnt/video'
MM_LIRC_DRIVER='serial'
MM_LIRC_REMOTE='hauppauge_R808'
MM_LIRC_DEVICE='/dev/lirc0'
MM_LIRC_KERNEL_MODULE='lirc_serial'
MM_LIRC_KERNEL_MODULE_OPTIONS='irq=3 io=0x2f8'
MM_LIRC_IREXEC_ENABLED='no'
MM_LIRC_FETCH_LIRCD_CONF='yes'
MM_LIRC_FETCH_LIRCRC='yes'
MM_LCDPROC_DEVICE='none'

That all being said, I suspect the issues you're having are more due to dhcpd than to your .conf file.

Can you telnet into the front end? That will let you look at how well environment variables got passed over and to how the file directories got set up.

Joe,
cheers for your help, I forgot it's telnet not ssh until you said "Can you telnet into the front end?", so after adding the missing elements in my .conf I have a working machine!

Seems the minimum .conf file I can get away with is as follows -

MM_NTP_SERVERS='uk.pool.ntp.org'
MM_NTP_FAILURE_ACTION='continue'

MM_X_OUTPUT_VGA='auto'
MM_X_OUTPUT_TV='none'
MM_X_RESOLUTION='1024x768'

MM_TZ='Europe/London'
MM_THEME_NAME='Retro'
MM_THEMEOSD_NAME='Retro-OSD'

MM_MASTER_SERVER='192.168.10.138'

Time to start playing with lots of options, well next weekend anyway!

Ray
