What has changed during past two month on X side?

Post by nietu » Sun Mar 02, 2008 11:12 pm

Have tested some new trunk(svn) versions on RAM fs based minimyth e.g. latest 16318-40. That one cannot get myth frontend up and running. After configuration bar when staring X, some seconds and it went to busybox login prompt

lates one whic is definetly working is 15333-37.

I noticed from xorg log that there is some odd behaviour (but I'm not specialist of X so some guideance might be needed for solving the problem)

Here is cut paste from working one

/********************/

Notice these two lines

I assume that this somehow activates TV encoder, but no success with 16318 based?

Any hints?

same xorg.conf used on both environments

it is not obvious why x is dying. can you telnet in as user minimyth and run the command xinit?

Thanks for the idea.

I assume that this one is the reason

I will update mine backend to same svn version. Usally done that after noticed that specific svn based minimyth is working

This is a known problem with the new renderer fallback code in combination with a Openchrome GL bug. For MiniMyth it is being tracked in this thread.

Hi,

Am trying out new frontend, the latest stable 0.21.0-41 (this OK to use without having upgraded backend ?) and getting the same problem with X:

from /var/log # tail *.log
(II) CHROME(0): [drm] removed 1 reserved context for kernel
(II) CHROME(0): [drm] unmapping 8192 bytes of SAREA 0xf8d44000 at 0xb3b60000
(II) CHROME(0): [drm] Closed DRM master.
Freed 7683200 (pool 1)
(II) CHROME(0): [drm] Irq handler uninstalled.
(II) CHROME(0): VIARestore
(II) CHROME(0): VT162xRestore
(II) CHROME(0): ViaDisablePrimaryFIFO
(II) CHROME(0): VIAUnmapMem
FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.

OK, looks like my fault, telnet into server and then run xinit shows :

2008-03-11 01:04:07.113 Unexpected DB Schema version. Waiting to see if DB is being upgraded.

So If I upgrade the backed that should fix it ?

Thanks.

Yes, upgrading the backend should fix it.

However, before upgrading your backend to 0.21, I would suggest that you be sure that, MiniMyth-0.20.2-41 works correctly. This will allow you to be sure that all MiniMyth changes not related to MythTV 0.21 work correctly. Also, before upgrading your backend, be sure to back up your database. That way, you can revert to 0.20 if/when there is a problem with 0.21.
