When MiniMyth begins to start X but dies, it is often helpful to start X from within a telnet window so that you can see the output. If you telnet into the MiniMyth frontend as user 'minimyth' and run 'xinit' at the command prompt, then do you see anything useful in the console output?

The only thing I could see is:

Couldn't find theme /usr/share/mythtv/themes/G.A.N.T

this used to work on this system with the previous minimyth.conf format using the defaults on the pervious minimyth version.

Any help is appreciated.

The URL variables need to contain the full path to the theme, not just the path to the directory containing the theme. That is, MM_THEME_URL='tftp://192.168.0.156/minimyth-0.21.0-47/themes/ should be MM_THEME_URL='tftp://192.168.0.156/minimyth-0.21.0-47/themes/G.A.N.T.sfs'. MM_THEMEOSD_URL should be similarly corrected.

As for why leaving URL variables unset is not working, I do not know.

What is the value of MM_MINIMYTH_BOOT_URL in /etc/conf.d/minimyth?

What is your TFTP directory structure?

Thanks Pablo.
in the sample minimyth.conf file the MM_MINIMYTH_BOOT_URL is not commented out. As soon as I did so it began to work.
