Hi,

I'm trying to get minimyth (ram-minimyth-0.21.0-59) to run, but the boot-process halts. On the screen it says 'configuring video'. In the log-file it says:

Code: Select all

(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
Parse error on line 2 of section Files in file /etc/X11/xorg.conf
        "@NVIDIA_TRUE@" is not a valid keyword in this section.
(EE) Problem parsing the config file
(EE) Error parsing the config file

Fatal server error:
no screens found
(WW) xf86CloseConsole: KDSETMODE failed: Bad file descriptor
(WW) xf86CloseConsole: VT_GETMODE failed: Bad file descriptor
My minimyth.conf looks like this:

Code: Select all

MM_DHCP_TCODE='Europe/Amsterdam'
MM_DHCP_NTP_SERVERS='213.239.154.12'
MM_NTP_FAILURE_ACTION='continue'
MM_THEME_NAME='MythCenter'
MM_THEMEOSD_NAME='Titivillus-OSD'
MM_X_OUTPUT_VGA='auto'
MM_X_OUTPUT_TV='auto'
MM_X_TV_TYPE='PAL'
MM_X_TV_OUTPUT='S-Video'
MM_MASTER_SERVER='192.168.1.26'
MM_MASTER_DBUSERNAME='mythtv'
MM_MASTER_DBPASSWORD=xxxx'
MM_MASTER_DBNAME='mythconverg'
[/code]

Could you telnet in as user 'root' and run

Code: Select all

mm_service x start
Also, what hardware are you using? Specifically, what is the output of

Code: Select all

lspci -mn

I'm using the VIA EPIA-SP 8000EG - 800MHz MiniITX board.

after mm_service x start Xorg.0.0.log gives me (this is not all of course but it's a bit long...):

Code: Select all

I am at a loss.

I have the same hardware. I copied your minimyth.conf and booted with 0.21.0-29 and I do not have the problem of /etc/X11/xorg.conf failing to update.

How are you booting? I tried both RAM and NFS network booting and could not reproduce the problem.

How much memory does your system have?

What are you using for a remote control receiver?

What is the output of

Code: Select all

lsusb
Do you see anything suspicious in /var/log/messages?

Eureka!
Your remark on the remote control got me thinking.

I had a cheap, small mini-keyboard attached to the box which was causing the troubles. I janked it out and am now booting minimyth!
Thanks for the quick replies !!!

I am glad you were able to track down and work around the problem.

However, out if idle curiosity, I wonder why the keyboard is causing the problem.

Me too. Previously it worked (that is with a 2 year old version of minimyth).
I can do without until my subs get out of sync. If you want me to test something, say so.

Is it a USB keyboard? If so, then could you post the output of

Code: Select all

lsusb
Is there anything that looks suspicious in /var/log/messages?

Hi Pablo,

I have very similar symptoms. Once upgraded from v 58 to 59, boot hangs on 'configuring video' and when I execute mm_service x start, the Xorg logs stopes on the same message as above:

Code: Select all

(II) evaluating device (Mouse1)
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Mouse1" (type: MOUSE)
(**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
(II) Mouse1: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.
The only external device is MCE receiver:

Code: Select all

# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0471:0815 Philips eHome Infrared Receiver
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
I would appreciate your help

When you say you have similar symptoms, do you mean that your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file still contains @NVIDIA_TRUE@?

Here is the beginning of the xorg.conf:

Code: Select all

Section "Files"
@NVIDIA_TRUE@    ModulePath  "/usr/lib/nvidia/xorg/modules"
    ModulePath  "/usr/lib/xorg/modules"
EndSection

Section "ServerFlags"
    Option      "DefaultServerLayout" "Layout1"
    Option      "XkbDisable"          "false"
    Option      "AllowMouseOpenFail"  "true"
    Option      "BlankTime"           "0"
    Option      "StandbyTime"         "0"
    Option      "SuspendTime"         "0"
    Option      "OffTime"             "0"
    Option      "NoPM"                "true"
    Option      "Xinerama"            "false"
    Option      "AIGLX"               "false"
EndSection

Section "Module"
    Load        "dbe"
@DRI_TRUE@    Load        "dri"
    Load        "extmod"
    Load        "freetype"
    Load        "glx"
    Load        "int10"
    Load        "record"
EndSection

...
BTW, the hardware I am running is ASUS M2NPV-VM

Could you post your minimyth.conf file?

There should something that makes booting problematic. I have just managed to save xorg.conf from a working v.58 frontend. Fetching this file for rel. 59 does not help. I have checked: /etc/X11/xorg.conf is now the same as was for the working rel. 58. Still hangs on 'configuring video' ...

May be this could help: when starting X with mm_service x start, the last line of the Xorg.0.0.log is

Code: Select all

FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.
My other frontend PC (Intel ATOM 945) is working fine with the new release. Both of them use ram version, loaded through PXE.
