squashfs error with ram-minimyth-0.21-60

Post by kdewaal » Sun Nov 16, 2008 1:59 pm

Hi,

I have upgraded just now from 0.21-59 to 0.21-60.
PROBLEM: when I press the "Media Library" / "Watch Recordings" nothing happens anymore on the screen.
After telnet into the box I can do "dmesg", the output is then forever:

SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 310411, size b48d
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read fragment cache entry [310411]
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 310411, size b48d
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read fragment cache entry [310411]
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 310411, size b48d

The 0.21-59 works OK on the same hardware.
MD5 checksum after download is OK.
Frontend hardware: M2NPV-VM/AMD3500/1GB.

Groetjes,
Klaas

I have noticed this at times as well. I have found that while the image may work on one system it does not work on another. In addition, I have found that regenerating the squashfs image solves the problem. However, I do not know the cause.

In the latest test build (0.21.0-61b1), I have added options to mksquashfs that should make it more conservative (e.g. using the default parameters from earlier versions of squashfs, and forcing the use of only one processor when generating the image). I hope that these changes will reduce the chance of mksquashfs generating an unstable image.

Hi Pablo,

Just for curiosity, I have tested the 0.21-60 also with completely different hardware, my laptop. This a Samsung R510 with an Intel Core 2 Duo and an Nvidia 8200 graphics chip. Here I get again the same error messages:
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 310411, size b48d
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read fragment cache entry [310411]
SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 310411, size b48d
The 0.21-61b1 works OK on the Samsung also.
So there is probably a real bug in the squashfs.

Klaas

Hopefully, the mksquashfs configuration settings will fix it.
