Problem with Intel 82574L Gigabit network card

Post by frbaresi » Fri May 15, 2009 12:08 pm

Hy Pablo
I'm trying to boot minimyth from a different hardware but i'm getting problems. The problem is that I can't get an IP from the dhcp-server so, I can't boot from NFS.
I've booted from other Linux distributions: Mythbuntu (kernel-2.6.27) and from Ubuntu 9.04 (kernel 2.6.28). On mythbuntu, I have no network interface ( despite of lspci detects my network card), and on Ubuntu 9.04 my network interface works perfectly. I also know ("lspci -nn -vvv") that Ubuntu uses the kernel driver e1000e to manage the network interface.
Does minimyth supports my new network card?

Thanks

Pablo

Could you post the output of lspci -mn

yes I can. I forgot to say that I have 2 network cards on the same machine ( both Intel 82574L gigabit). I've tried to boot minimyth from both cards.

Support for this adapter was introduced into the 2.6.28 vanilla kernel. It is likely that that Ubuntu backported it to their 2.6.27 kernel as RHEL backborted it to their 2.6.18 kernel.

The latest test build (67b7) is built with the 2.6.29.3 kernel, which should have support for this hardware.

Hy Pablo
Thanks for the help.
I've solved my problem by applying a patch that fixes the problem with e100e. I'm still using kernel 2.6.26 but now I have no problem with my ntwork card :D

Thanks

If you have a URL for the patch, then I can add it to the earlier kernels in the build system.

Hy Pablo
The patch was given by a friend, so I don't have any URL. If you give me your email I can send the patch to you.
