Does Minimyth support wlan

Post by JoniR » Sun Mar 21, 2010 4:35 pm

Hi,
I am building my second minimyth configuration. I load system from SD memory card using SD-IDE Adapter. In this case I have to use wlan to get connect to mythtv backend and I faced to the booting problem when using usb wlan stick to network interface. Booting will stop in blue screen and gives text: Configuring network interface. How I get access to /var/messages? In first system I get always ip address(it is connect to network using normal ethernet) and I was only use telnet for the debugging.

I tried that same usb stick in another machine, which have Ubuntu 9.10 installed and wlan stick works plug and play(no any driver installed needed).

Does Minimyth support wlan network interface and it is possible to configure in minimyth.conf ?

Edit: Now I found the way to get access to messages. I added debug to the bootline.

Code: Select all

Messages:local0.info minimyth: no network interface found, default...
So its seems that there is no valid driver which system can load?

Any suggestions how I can fetch drivers or do I need build own minimyth with right drivers?
I plug usb stick to other pc and it says: Zydas 802.11b/g USB WLAN
lsusb gives:

Code: Select all

joni@ubuntu:~$ lsusb
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 079b:004a Sagem XG-760A
Thank you for helping!

Best regards,
Joni Räsänen

MiniMyth does not support WLAN.

I have experimented with adding wpa_supplicant, adding the WLAN driver needed by the Acer AspireRevo 3610, and hacking the init scripts to make it work. I was able to get it to work. However, because using Ethernet over Powerline (using Netgear's XAVB101 Powerline AV product) rather than IEEE 802.11n turned out to be more reliable, I didn't spend the time to cleanly modify the init scripts. In addition, I removed wpa_supplicant and the WLAN driver.

Not worth the hastle of trying to even sort... buy a ethernet to wlan adapter.

I know Dlink used to make one.... have one kicking about somewhere. Really useful in the old days when broadcom drivers were so unreliable.
