HDMI Audio on ASUS AT5IONT-I (ION2)

Post by kyriacoskc » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:44 pm

Hi,

I have setup a minimyth (boot from CF) FE based on ASUS AT5IONT-I motherboard that has integrated ION2 GPU. I have spend many hours trying different settings (found in forum and other sources) in order to get the sound through the HDMI port on my TV, but without success. Is there anybody that has a similar configuration and managed to make it working. I would feel very appreciated for any help. Is there any update NVidia driver that has to be loaded or something?

Kind Regards,
Kyriacos

If you have not already done so, then could you update your version of MiniMyth to 76b3. It has newer versions of ALSA drivers, libraries and utilities, which may address your problem.

Once you have updated, if it is still not working, then could you post the output of

Code: Select all

aplay -L
as well as the values of any MM_AUDIO_* variables in your minimyth.conf file.
MiniMyth running on an Acer ApireRevo 3610 and a Zotac ZBOX-ID80-U. Find out more at my MythTV page.

Thanks a lot!!! IT WORKED!!! ;-)

After updating to the latest test version, myth general settings page detected all devices. Before updating was able to recognize (regarding HDMI) only:

ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia

...but ater the update I got:

ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0
ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1 ------------> this one worked since it corresponds to physical device #7
ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=2
ALSA:hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=3

For the records aplay -L output is :

Code: Select all

root@MYTHFRONT:~ # aplay -L
null
Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture)
front:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC887 Analog
    Front speakers
surround40:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC887 Analog
4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers
surround41:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC887 Analog
4.1 Surround output to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
surround50:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC887 Analog
5.0 Surround output to Front, Center and Rear speakers
surround51:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC887 Analog
5.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer speakers
surround71:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC887 Analog
7.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers
iec958:CARD=Intel,DEV=0
    HDA Intel, ALC887 Digital
    IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output
hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=0
    HDA NVidia, HDMI 0
    HDMI Audio Output
hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=1
    HDA NVidia, HDMI 0
    HDMI Audio Output
hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=2
    HDA NVidia, HDMI 0
    HDMI Audio Output
hdmi:CARD=NVidia,DEV=3
    HDA NVidia, HDMI 0
    HDMI Audio Output
... and my audio settings in configuration file are:

Code: Select all

MM_AUDIO_TYPE='digital'
MM_AUDIO_CARD_NUMBER='1'
MM_AUDIO_DEVICE_NUMBER='7'
Now my Myth frontend works perfectly. Thanks again!

Sohomita,

If I understand your question correctly, sound is carried in the hdmi cable. See:
