MiniMyth with MythTV 0.20 test build is available

Post by Pablo » Tue Sep 12, 2006 6:11 pm

There is a MiniMyth version with MythTV 0.20 support avaiable in the test download directory. It contains the SVN fixes through 11163 (yes, there are already fixes).

Since I am still running a 0.19 backend, I have not tested it. However, I would be interested in people's feedback.

Wow that was fast work Pablo!!

I plan to upgrade to 0.20 this weekend so I'll let you know how it pans out :)

Thank you. Given the rate at which fixes are being added to the 0.20 fixes branch, I will likely post an updated version before this weekend.

Thank you for the output. I think that I know what the problem is.

As far a I know, the 'default' MythTV theme cannot be used. Rather, it contains default XML and image files do not need to include everything. Therefore, you should try one of the themes in the MiniMyth distribution's 'themes' directory. Personally, I have been using 'G.A.N.T.' and it has been working for me.

If changing MM_THEME_NAME to somthing other than default works, then I will add a check in the init script to make sure that the user does not set MM_THEME_NAME to default.

By the way, you can set the OSD Theme to 'defaultosd' and it should work.

Do you have the 'themes' directory in the same directory on your TFTP server as the 'kernel' and 'rootfs' files?

When you look in '/usr/share/mythtv/themes', do you see the theme directories for the themes you are trying to use?

Yes I have my themes directory in my conf directory.

I just tried the MythCenter-wide and it works with these settings

MM_THEME_NAME='MythCetner-wide'
MM_THEMEOSD_NAME='defaultosd'
MM_THEME_URL='conf:themes/MythCetner-wide.sfs'

I thought the MM_THEME_URL just had to point to the path, but it would not find the theme till I put in the full path to the sfs file. Is this the way it works?

Well, then I am not sure what is wrong.
bigA wrote:Yes I have my themes directory in my conf directory.
Since themes can be MythTV version dependent and are part of the distribution, I prefer to put them in the directory with the 'kernel' and 'rootfs' files. I create sub-directory for each version named 'minimyth-<version>' with those three items and my 'extras.sfs' file. However, what you are doing should work provided the themes are from the same distribution as 'kernel' and 'rootfs'.

I assume that 'Cetner' is a typo in the post.

When you use 'MythCenter-wide', could you look in the directory '/usr/share/mythtv/themes/MythCenter-wide' on your frontend and make sure that the theme file are there? Also, you could try 'G.A.N.T.' for the them and 'Titivillus-OSD' for th OSD theme to see whether or not that works (those are what I have been using - but I tried moving my themes to the 'conf/default/themes' directory and using 'MythCenter' (not wide since 0.19 does not have wide and 'defaultosd' and it worked.)?

It needs the file name in order to determine whether the file is 'cfs', 'sfs', or 'tar.bz2'

This variable needs to be set on the boot line, and the value need to be either unquoted or double quoted (ie. MM_DEBUG=yes or MM_DEBUG="yes").

I tried both, and I added it to the append line.
I was getting extra data on the screen etc, but I had no log file in /var/log

I have tried to boot up the 0.20-19b4 (NFS) version. Please note that my backend is still running 0.19, so I have not yet had the possibility to watch anything...

System:
o motherboard SP8000E
o DVD-player
o mceusb2 attached
o pxe booting

Everything I have tried seems to work great! I have found the following changes between minimyth-0.19-4 and the test version:
o Often (but not always!) during "loading kernel modules (automatic)..." I get a message in the upper left corner saying: "usb 1-1: device not accepting address 2, error -71". The remote is working properly though...
o The remote is working properly. In minimyth-0.19-14 the "OK"-button was very "trigger happy" (if I pressed "OK" MythTV often interpreted it as "OK"*2). Great!
o OpenGL menus look beautiful (no CPU 100% usage problem).

lsusb output:
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0471:0815 Philips
